DBPR Issues Important Security Notice to Licensees

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) issued a statement on July 26 regarding potential cams for members to be aware of. In the statement, Senior Compliance Officer Mike Divins said:

In an abundance of caution, we are reaching out to inform you of a potential scam we have recently become aware of – and we want to ensure that you are informed and prepared.

We have identified a suspicious email that has been sent to some of our licensees, which does not originate from DBPR. Please be cautious if you receive an email like the one below that requests a copy of your identification (both the front and back of your driver’s license), your business’s EIN#, and a website link to your business.

If you receive such an email, we recommend that you DO NOT click on any links or respond to it with any “personal identification information”, which is defined under section 817.5685, Florida Statutes, as a person’s social security number, official state-issued or United States-issued driver license or identification number, alien registration number, government passport number, employer or taxpayer identification number, Medicaid or food assistance account number, bank account number, credit or debit card number, and medical records.

Please Remember:

  • Official DBPR emails will always come from the domain @myfloridalicense.com.
  • We will never ask for personal information via email.

If you need help verifying an email, please contact us at 850-487-1395.

Additionally, as you may be aware our customer contact center now allows callers to request a callback during periods of high call volume.  We have become aware that fraudulent calls, impersonating a DBPR callback, are being received by our customers in an attempt to obtain payments or personal information.

If you receive a callback from DBPR, that you have not requested, please remember:

  • Callbacks are only provided upon the request of our customers.
  • Our agents will always ask you about the nature of your call and how they may be of assistance when they call you. Our agents will not know the nature of your call until they speak with you.
  • Our agents will not call you for payments to expedite your application.
  • All payments can be securely made using your online account if you do not want to make a payment over the phone.

Your security and privacy are our top priorities, and we urge you to remain vigilant. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Be sure to be on the lookout for these emails and report any suspicious activity to the DBPR.
