City of Jacksonville Offers Free Flood Insurance Information to REALTORS

Why Do I Need Flood Insurance?

As a public service, the City of Jacksonville, Development Services Division, Floodplain Management staff will provide you with the following information upon request:

  • Whether a property is in or out of the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) as shown on the current Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) of the City.
  • Additional flood insurance data for a site, such as the FIRM zone and the base flood elevation or depth, if shown on the FIRM.
  • A handout (flyer) from FEMA on the flood insurance purchase requirement that can help people who need a mortgage or loan for a property in the SFHA. The federal government requires that homes in high-risk flood areas designated on flood maps by the letters AE or VE be protected by flood insurance if they are security for loans backed by a federally regulated lender. Lenders must notify borrowers of this requirement, prior to closing, if their property is in one of these areas.
  • Elevation certificates for new and substantially improved structures in the SFHA since 1991. If your home or building was built or substantially improved after 1991, the Development Services Division may have an elevation certificate on file for your property.
  • Updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps as needed when revisions are made to the maps.
  • Information for additional FIRM information, problems not shown on the FIRM, flood depth data, special flood related hazards, historical flood information, and natural floodplain functions.

To make an inquiry, please provide the street address or building permit number. The Development Services Division is open 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. You may call the Development Services Division at (904) 255-8310, visit the office at 214 N. Hogan St., 2nd Floor, Jacksonville, FL, 32202, or email reviewgrp@coj.net. There is no charge for this service. The City also makes information from the FIRM available online at https://maps.coj.net/duvalproperty/
