A years-long vision sponsored by NEFAR has finally come to fruition with the completion of a transformative placemaking project in Downtown Jacksonville’s Cathedral Hill District. What began as an idea under the leadership of 2023 NEFAR President Diana Galavis, has now become a permanent symbol of community.
The project was officially unveiled on Oct. 31 after a long road of planning. “This was a vision that was in the works and spanned several years of NEFAR leadership, started with my year 2023 and completed this year,” said Galavis. “I wanted to do a placemaking project that highlighted the deep ties NEFAR has to the community that also showed the strength of REALTORS.”
With a mission to support community development, increase REALTOR® visibility, and enhance advocacy, NEFAR sought a project that reflected its core values. “Placemaking supports initiatives that improve community livability and promote diverse, inclusive communities,” Galavis explained.
Galavis emphasized the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors, aiming to create a permanent installation that aligned with NEFAR’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. After months of discussions and planning, NEFAR found the perfect partner in the Cathedral Hill District, a vibrant area focused on commercial projects and residential growth in the heart of Downtown Jacksonville.
Following a public call for artists, a thoughtful selection process, and months of permitting and coordination, the project came to life with the installation of four gateway markers welcoming residents and visitors to the Cathedral Hill District. Each marker embodies the spirit of community, creativity, and the REALTOR® commitment to building stronger neighborhoods.
“NEFAR is the proud presenting sponsor of four gateway markers welcoming residents and visitors to the District,” said Galavis. “I encourage NEFAR members to visit the Cathedral Hill District and enjoy the beautiful artwork highlighting Who We R. REALTORS®.”
