Requirements & Expectations
Applicants should be prepared to meet the following requirements and expectations if selected to serve as a Chair, Vice Chair, or Support Team Member.
Leadership Term Commitment
Beginning with the 2027 leadership year, applicants selected to serve as Vice Chair are asked to commit to a two-year leadership path. The first year would be served as Vice Chair, with the expectation of moving into the Chair role the following year.
This structure helps provide consistency, continuity, and stronger year-to-year planning for NEFAR’s committees, councils, specialty groups, and task forces.
Because 2027 is a transition year for this new process, some Chair positions may be filled directly when needed, such as when a current Vice Chair is unable to move into the Chair role.
Understanding of Role Responsibilities
Applicants should review and understand the duties and responsibilities of the position they are applying for, including the role of Chairs, Vice Chairs, and Support Team Members.
Applicants should also review the purpose and responsibilities of NEFAR’s committees, councils, specialty groups, and task forces as outlined in NEFAR’s Policy Manual.

Support Team Member Expectations
Support Team Members play an important role in helping Chairs and Vice Chairs carry out the work of their committee, council, specialty group, or task force.
Support Team Members may be asked to regularly attend scheduled planning meetings, assist with assigned tasks, support events or initiatives when applicable, contribute ideas, and work collaboratively with fellow volunteers and NEFAR staff to support the goals of the group.

For Area Councils and Specialty Groups, leaders are expected to plan and execute a minimum of four events during the calendar year, with a maximum of seven events unless otherwise approved. January and December are blackout periods for Area Council and Specialty Group events.
