With heavy hearts NEFAR has learned of the death of Karl Edward Lawhon (Ed). Mr. Lawhon passed away on December 15, 2024. He had been battling cancer and died with his family by his side.
In 1968, Mr. Lawhon became a REALTOR®. He was a broker and developer for the Sheffield company for over 30 years and served as vice-president and sales manager. He later started his own brokerage firm, Ed Lawhon, Inc., in 1999. He loved his work and commented about the miles of roads he had built in Northeast Florida. Mr. Lawhon served on the state board for the health department representing the Florida Association of Realtors for 25 years.
Mr. Lawhon grew up in Tennessee and moved to Florida to work at Patrick Air Force Base. He then found a love for Florida and decided to move to Northeast Florida permanently. Over the years he aided in the construction of many buildings throughout Jacksonville.
Mr. Lawhon was married to his wife, Cornelia Gray, for 53 years, and leaves behind four children, 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and one sister. Some of Mr. Lawhon’s favorite hobbies included boating, fishing, watching NASCAR racing and football. He was a past President of the Rotary Club of North Jacksonville and member since 1981, where he accomplished many good things for the club and his community. He was also a member of the Jacksonville Police Council.
Mr. Lawhon’s Celebration of Life took place at Legacy Lodge on December 28, 2024, and was buried at Oaklawn Cemetery.
