Members of NEFAR’s Candidate Screening Task Force met over 6 days in July and August to interview 23 candidates for local seats in Duval, Clay, Putnam and St. Johns Counties. Led by 2024 Chair Millie Kanyar and Vice Chair Mark Feagle, the group met with each candidate to learn their views on topics such as affordable housing and zoning flexibility, property rights and rental policy, taxation philosophy and smart growth. In addition to the personal interviews the Task Force reviewed the candidates’ written responses to a preliminary questionnaire and the viability of the candidate’s campaigns to then determine which candidate, if any, should receive NEFAR support. A total of eight recommendations for endorsement were sent to the Board of Directors for final approval.
Earlier this year, several incumbents were recommended and approved by the Board of Directors for endorsement based on their continued support for the real estate industry. Contestants for races in Atlantic, Neptune and Jacksonville Beach will be interviewed after the August 20th primary election as those races will appear on the November ballot.
