NEFAR is deeply saddened to share the passing of member Helene Sirota Edwards on March 22, at the age of 93. Ms. Edwards was born on January 12, 1932, in Washington D.C.
Ms. Edwards was very involved with her family, throwing several gatherings over the years and keeping connected with her extended family and three sisters. She met her husband, Marvin R. Edwards, and they moved to Jacksonville together in 1955. The two were married for almost 63 years. She was a dedicated wife to Mr. Edwards, supporting him in all of his work for decades. The two shared three children together.
When it came to the community, Ms. Edwards was involved in every way that she could be. As a dedicated mother of three, always prioritizing her children’s education, she was an active member in her kid’s parent-teacher associations. She was also involved in her synagogue. She was known for her constant efforts to help organize events and provide a helping hand wherever she could. Additionally, Ms. Edwards offered her free time to Community Hospice and Palliative Care and River Garden Senior Services, volunteering whenever she was able. Understanding the importance of education, she ensured her kids prioritized schoolwork. This included support with school projects and never missing parent-teacher conferences.
Ms. Edwards received her education from George Washington University. In her career, she was a substitute teacher, and a REALTOR at Watson Realty. She was a longtime agent for over 30 years, who was loved by many in the community, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Jeff, Doug, and Carolyn, her several grandchildren, her sister, Joan, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of life will be held at 11 AM, Friday, March 28, 2025, at Congregation Ahavath Chesed, The Temple, 8727 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Congregation Ahavath Chesed, River Garden Foundation or Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
